As artists ourselves, Jennifer Rae and I know how linked art is to everyday life. From the start of our friendship, we made a commitment to pursue and push both ourselves and our art to dream a little bigger. In 2017, it became clear our art no longer fit within our homes, so we co-founded Studio i. A studio space that is flexible for not just our needs, but also the diverse needs of other artists.
Creating an atmosphere that it is open, safe, inspiring and encouraging to all that enter, we believe that the artists within our walls should be as diverse as the art in space. We also believe in the continued visibility & power within the work of people of color and women, as well as our lgbtqia+ and immigrant communities.
For almost 7 years, I’ve had the privilege to curate shows, design and foster the culture of the studio and the ever changing, growing needs of its artist community.
Studio i is located in the historical warehouse of Erector Square, the former Erector Set toy factory in the heart of the Fair Haven neighborhood of New Haven. The corner of Erector Square that we call our very own is located on the third floor of building #5. Our space is 20'x24' with 14' high ceilings, a stunning finished floor, and one beautiful wall of windows.
